Commenting on the decision to introduce Omega Oils into the children’s diets Colleen Sims, nursery co owner said “As a leading nursery we are very aware of the responsibility we have towards the children we look after. A child’s wellbeing includes many aspects, and we feel that children need to be given every chance to lead a happy, healthy and safe life. It also means that children become much more aware of the importance of healthy eating if we start to demonstrate the benefits to them at this stage of their lives. The Cool Oil product was particularly relevant for our needs, as it contains no nut or sesame oils, so potential allergy concerns are covered. It was also a way for us to ethically introduce these essential fats into children’s diets, there are no gelatine concerns or any issue with intensive farming – it is a seed oil, pure and simple.”
Now for the science bit: Cool Oil is a blend of organic seed oils, that gives, what we believe, is the optimum ratio of Omega 3, 6 & 9 EFAs (essential fatty acids) that our bodies require. We developed this by researching many sources to find out what is commonly accepted as the best ratio and hence Cool Oil offers a blend of Omega 3, 6 and 9 in the recommended 2:1:1 ratio.
The need for Omega 3, 6 & 9 in our diets has been highlighted recently in many articles. They are known as essential fats as our bodies cannot create them on their own, we have to take them in from our food. Oily fish is one of the best natural sources but not everyone likes fish or the idea of fish oil. Organically grown seeds such as flax, hemp & pumpkin seed contain the EFA's we need as well. There has been more and more research pointing towards the benefits of EFAs in helping to reduce joint stiffness and pain, maintain brain function, protect against heart disease, improve skin condition, raise energy levels and strengthen the immune system. The brain, for instance, is made up of fat and it is the good fats (EFAs) that it needs to develop and be maintained properly. These are just some of the many benefits that research has shown may be experienced from taking Omega 3, 6 and 9, in the correct balance on a regular basis.
