Omega 9
Omega 9 fatty acid is not in fact an essential fatty acid, as our body is able to produce a limited amount of it. It is known as Oleic Acid and is associated primarily with helping to prevent Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). There is also a link between Oleic Acid and cardiovascular disease due to its ability to help lower cholesterol levels. Olive oil, which plays a major role in the Mediterranean diet, is high in Oleic acid and is associated with maintaining a healthy heart and lowering cholesterol levels when used as a regular part of the diet.
